You might be asking that when you see my blog. Anime is simply Japanese animation which is similar to our cartoon shows we watch on television. Yes, the art style varies with each different anime as well. There are a vast amount of anime genres and you might have thought anime was just girly and weird. There is an anime genre for everyone. Let's begin on the major genres and maybe you'll find one you are interested in.
Action: A popular genre filled with fast paced fight scenes and tough characters. The plots are usually thin and filled with quick decisions. Some examples of this genre are Attack on Titan, Fullmetal Alchemist, and D.Gray-Man.
Comedy: Another popular genre that's filled with silly events involving many character. The plot is mainly based on funny characters, situation, and events. A great classic is Ouran High School Host Club, not too much recommended is Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu but it's silly, and Daily Lives of High School Boys which explains the title because it's just weird boys being weird.
Fantasy: Set in a mythical world filled with magic and mythical creature. Mostly based on real world legends and myths. Some in particular are filled with knights, magic, and quests. If this interests you than you should check out Sword Art Online and it's filled with gaming and fighting dragons and monsters, Fairy Tail has magic, and Blue Exorcist which is filled with demons and magic. One of my first anime and with such beautiful art is Mushishi.
Romance: A love story involving two people who go through struggle to keep each other, or it could be a laid back love plot as well as other categories this falls under. One that I rated a masterpiece and highly recommend you try it out is Your Lie in April, beautiful is all I can say. Some others are Say I Love You, Nagi no Asukara which is also wonderful and beautiful, and one of the best anime movies I've ever watched is Howl's Movies Castle.
Sci-Fi: A technology and scientific based setting usually futuristic and fictional. There are many different anime that fit this category but a few I like are Kiznaiver and it's filled with over coming challenges and mystery, Dimension W has robots and action, and Casshern Sins is about an apocalyptic dying world with robots.
Shounen: Particularly aimed for the audience of younger boys. Containing adventure, action, friendship, and super powers. One of my favorite genres and filled with my favorite anime such as Soul Eater which is a classic, if you like sports try out Haikyuu!! it is currently my top 1 favorite, and Boku no Hero Academia filled with superpowers and comedy. Some major anime of this genre you probably heard of are Naruto, One Piece, and Bleach.
Slice of Life: This genre is a bit different form the others with no real plot design and is mainly focused around the main character and their daily life. Usually incorporates love, relationships, and life. The mood is supposed to be calming and happy. Barakamon is filled with learning life lessons and changing, K-on!! is popular and the art is cute with the character being a bit silly, One Week Friends is super cute with cute art and cute characters, and finally a really great one to check out is Tanaka-kun wa Itsumo Kedaruge it is pretty adorable and funny.
There are plenty other genres with these being the most popular. Feel free to check out myanimelist.com if you are ever interested in to check out more wonderful anime. Anime is much more than what you think it is, it's more than just a hobby. It is art, and inspires many people who watch it. The Japanese culture has always been influenced by their love for anime. Upcoming in my blog posts is going to be the very first anime ever made and how that influenced how Japan is today, have a wonderful day! :)
